Great-Grandchildren Work Together To Paint Kumugwe Bighouse 2024

We are thrilled to share the results of our latest project: the refurbishment of Kumugwe, the Bighouse built by the late Chief Andy Frank in 1959. This building holds immense cultural significance and is the reason the Kumugwe Cultural Society was established.

With the generous support of the First Peoples’ Cultural Council, we had the honor of bringing together three direct descendants of the original builders and carvers to restore and maintain Kumugwe’s house front and house posts.

This past summer (2024), Junior Henderson, David Knox, and Karver Everson undertook this important work, continuing the legacy of our ancestors.

This restoration is an important step in honoring our ancestors and maintaining the cultural ties that have existed throughout the decades through those lineage lines. Kumugwe remains a powerful symbol of our culture, history, and community, and we are so proud to carry forward this tradition of care and stewardship.
